Reading 1 Sir 35:1-12 To keep the law is a great oblation,and he who observes the commandments sacrifices a peace offering.In works of charity one offers fine flour,and when he gives alms he presents his sacrifice of praise.To refrain from evil pleases the LORD,and to avoid injustice is an atonement.Appear not before the LORD empty-handed,for all that you offer is in fulfillment of the precepts.The just one's offering enriches the altarand rises as a sweet odor before the Most High.The just one's sacrifice is most pleasing,nor will it ever be forgotten.In a generous spirit pay homage to the LORD,be not sparing of freewill gifts.With each contribution show a cheerful countenance,and pay your tithes in a spirit of joy.Give to the Most High as he has given to you,generously, according to your means.For the LORD is one who always repays,and he will give back to you sevenfold.But offer no bribes, these he does not accept!Trust not in sacrifice of the fruits of extortion.For he is a God of justice,who knows no favorites. Reading II 1 Cor 12:3b-7, 12-13 Brothers and sisters: No one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit;  there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit. As a body is one though it has many parts, and all the parts of the body, though many, are one body, so also Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slaves or free persons, and we were all given to drink of one Spirit.   Sequence Veni, Sancte Spiritus Come, Holy Spirit, come! Reading 1 Acts 28:16-20, 30-31 When he entered Rome, Paul was allowed to live by himself,with the soldier who was guarding him.Three days later he called together the leaders of the Jews.When they had gathered he said to them, "My brothers,although I had done nothing against our peopleor our ancestral customs,I was handed over to the Romans as a prisoner from Jerusalem.After trying my case the Romans wanted to release me,because they found nothing against me deserving the death penalty.But when the Jews objected, I was obliged to appeal to Caesar,even though I had no accusation to make against my own nation.This is the reason, then, I have requested to see youand to speak with you, for it is on account of the hope of Israelthat I wear these chains." He remained for two full years in his lodgings.He received all who came to him, and with complete assuranceand without hindrance he proclaimed the Kingdom of Godand taught about the Lord Jesus Christ.
