Wednesday of the Second Week of Easter

Reading 1 Acts 5:17-26 The high priest rose up and all his companions, that is, the party of the Sadducees, and, filled with jealousy, laid hands upon the Apostles and put them in the public jail. But during the night, the angel of the Lord opened the doors of the prison, led them out, and said,“Go and take your place in the temple area, and tell the people everything about this life.”When they heard this, they went to the temple early in the morning and taught. When the high priest and his companions arrived, they convened the Sanhedrin, the full senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the jail to have them brought in.But the court officers who went did not find them in the prison,so they came back and reported,“We found the jail securely lockedand the guards stationed outside the doors, but when we opened them, we found no one inside.”When the captain of the temple guard and the chief priests heard this report, they were at a loss about them,as to what this would come to.Then someone came in and reported to them,“The men whom you put in prison are in the temple areaand are teaching the people.”Then the captain and the court officers went and brought them, but without force, because they were afraid of being stoned by the people. Responsorial Psalm 34:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9 R.    (7a) The Lord hears the cry of the poor.or:R.    Alleluia.I will bless the LORD at all times;his praise shall be ever in my mouth.Let my soul glory in the LORD;the lowly will hear me and be glad.R.    The Lord hears the cry of the poor.or:R.    Alleluia.Glorify the LORD with me,let us together extol his name.I sought the LORD, and he answered meand delivered me from all my fears.R.    The Lord hears the cry of the poor.or:R.    Alleluia.Look to him that you may be radiant with joy,and your faces may not blush with shame. When the poor one called out, the LORD heard, and from all his distress he saved him.R.    The Lord hears the cry of the poor.or:R.    Alleluia. The angel of the LORD encampsaround those who fear him, and delivers them.Taste and see how good the LORD is;blessed the man who takes refuge in him.R.    The Lord hears the cry of the poor.or:R.    Alleluia. Alleluia Jn 3:16 R. Alleluia, alleluia.God so love the world that he gave his only-begotten Son,so that everyone who believes in him might have eternal life.R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Jn 3:16-21 God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son,so that everyone who believes in him might not perishbut might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God.And this is the verdict, that the light came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the lightand does not come toward the light,so that his works might not be exposed. But whoever lives the truth comes to the light,so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God. - - - Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States, second typical edition, Copyright © 2001, 1998, 1997, 1986, 1970 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine; Psalm refrain © 1968, 1981, 1997, International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Inc. Tuesday of the Second Week of Easter

Reading 1 Acts 4:32-37 The community of believers was of one heart and mind, and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own,but they had everything in common. With great power the Apostles bore witnessto the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great favor was accorded them all. There was no needy person among them, for those who owned property or houses would sell them, bring the proceeds of the sale, and put them at the feet of the Apostles, and they were distributed to each according to need. Thus Joseph, also named by the Apostles Barnabas(which is translated "son of encouragement"),a Levite, a Cypriot by birth, sold a piece of property that he owned, then brought the money and put it at the feet of the Apostles. Responsorial Psalm Ps 93:1ab, 1cd-2, 5 R. (1a) The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty.or:R. Alleluia. The LORD is king, in splendor robed;robed is the LORD and girt about with strength.R. The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty.or:R. Alleluia. And he has made the world firm, not to be moved.Your throne stands firm from of old;from everlasting you are, O LORD.R. The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty.or:R. Alleluia.Your decrees are worthy of trust indeed:holiness befits your house,O LORD, for length of days.R. The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty.or:R. Alleluia. Alleluia Jn 3:14-15 R. Alleluia, alleluia. The Son of Man must be lifted up,so that everyone who believes in himmay have eternal life.R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Jn 3:7b-15 Jesus said to Nicodemus:"'You must be born from above.'The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes;so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."Nicodemus answered and said to him,'How can this happen?"Jesus answered and said to him,"You are the teacher of Israel and you do not understand this?Amen, amen, I say to you,we speak of what we know and we testify to what we have seen, but you people do not accept our testimony. If I tell you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has gone up to heavenexcept the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert,so must the Son of Man be lifted up,so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life." - - -Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States, second typical edition, Copyright © 2001, 1998, 1997, 1986, 1970 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine; Psalm refrain © 1968, 1981, 1997, International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Inc. Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord

Reading 1 Is 7:10-14; 8:10 The LORD spoke to Ahaz, saying:Ask for a sign from the LORD, your God;let it be deep as the nether world, or high as the sky!But Ahaz answered,“I will not ask! I will not tempt the LORD!”Then Isaiah said:Listen, O house of David! Is it not enough for you to weary people, must you also weary my God?Therefore the Lord himself will give you this sign:the virgin shall be with child, and bear a son,and shall name him Emmanuel, which means “God is with us!” Responsorial Psalm 40:7-8a, 8b-9, 10, 11 R.    (8a and 9a)  Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.Sacrifice or oblation you wished not,but ears open to obedience you gave me.Holocausts or sin-offerings you sought not;then said I, “Behold I come.”R.    Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.“In the written scroll it is prescribed for me,To do your will, O my God, is my delight, and your law is within my heart!”R.    Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.I announced your justice in the vast assembly;I did not restrain my lips, as you, O LORD, know.R.    Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.Your justice I kept not hid within my heart;your faithfulness and your salvation I have spoken of;I have made no secret of your kindness and your truthin the vast assembly.R.    Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Reading 2 Heb 10:4-10 Brothers and sisters:It is impossible that the blood of bulls and goatstake away sins. For this reason, when Christ came into the world, he said:“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me;in holocausts and sin offerings you took no delight. Then I said, ‘As is written of me in the scroll, behold, I come to do your will, O God.’”First he says, “Sacrifices and offerings, holocausts and sin offerings, you neither desired nor delighted in.”These are offered according to the law. Then he says, “Behold, I come to do your will.”He takes away the first to establish the second.By this “will,” we have been consecratedthrough the offering of the Body of Jesus Christ once for all. Alleluia Jn 1:14ab R. Alleluia, alleluia. The Word of God became flesh and made his dwelling among us; and we saw his glory. R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Lk 1:26-38 The angel Gabriel was sent from Godto a town of Galilee called Nazareth,to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph,of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary. And coming to her, he said,“Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you.”But she was greatly troubled at what was saidand pondered what sort of greeting this might be.Then the angel said to her,“Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son,and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his Kingdom there will be no end.”But Mary said to the angel,“How can this be,since I have no relations with a man?”And the angel said to her in reply,“The Holy Spirit will come upon you,and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be bornwill be called holy, the Son of God.And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age,and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren;for nothing will be impossible for God.”Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord.May it be done to me according to your word.”Then the angel departed from her. - - -Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States, second typical edition, Copyright © 2001, 1998, 1997, 1986, 1970 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine; Psalm refrain © 1968, 1981, 1997, International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Inc. Second Sunday of Easter

Reading 1 Acts 4:32-35 The community of believers was of one heart and mind, and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own,but they had everything in common. Alleluia.Let the house of Israel say,"His mercy endures forever."Let the house of Aaron say,"His mercy endures forever."Let those who fear the LORD say,"His mercy endures forever."R. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, his love is everlasting.or:R. Alleluia.I was hard pressed and was falling, but the LORD helped me.My strength and my courage is the LORD,and he has been my savior. The joyful shout of victoryin the tents of the just:R. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, his love is everlasting.or:R. Alleluia. The stone which the builders rejectedhas become the cornerstone.By the LORD has this been done;it is wonderful in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made;let us be glad and rejoice in it.R. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, his love is everlasting.or:R. Alleluia. Reading 2 1 Jn 5:1-6 Beloved:Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten by God,and everyone who loves the Fatherloves also the one begotten by him.In this way we know that we love the children of Godwhen we love God and obey his commandments. For the love of God is this, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome, for whoever is begotten by God conquers the world. And the victory that conquers the world is our faith.Who indeed is the victor over the worldbut the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?This is the one who came through water and blood, Jesus Christ, not by water alone, but by water and blood. The Spirit is the one that testifies, and the Spirit is truth. Sequence -- optional Victimae paschali laudes Christians, to the Paschal Victim             Offer your thankful praises! A Lamb the sheep redeems;             Christ, who only is sinless,             Reconciles sinners to the Father. Death and life have contended in that combat stupendous:             The Prince of life, who died, reigns immortal. Speak, Mary, declaring             What you saw, wayfaring. “The tomb of Christ, who is living,             The glory of Jesus’ resurrection; bright angels attesting,             The shroud and napkin resting. Yes, Christ my hope is arisen;             to Galilee he goes before you.” Christ indeed from death is risen, our new life obtaining.             Have mercy, victor King, ever reigning!             Amen. Alleluia. Alleluia Jn 20:29 R. Alleluia, alleluia. You believe in me, Thomas, because you have seen me, says the Lord;Blessed are those who have not seen me, but still believe!R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Jn 20:19-31 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews,Jesus came and stood in their midstand said to them, "Peace be with you."When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you.As the Father has sent me, so I send you."And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,"Receive the Holy Spirit.Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained."Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.So the other disciples said to him, "We have seen the Lord."But he said to them,"Unless I see the mark of the nails in his handsand put my finger into the nailmarksand put my hand into his side, I will not believe."Now a week later his disciples were again insideand Thomas was with them.Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, "Peace be with you."Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe."Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!"Jesus said to him, "Have you come to believe because you have seen me?Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed."Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciplesthat are not written in this book. But these are written that you may come to believethat Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God,and that through this belief you may have life in his name.
