Monday of the Second Week of Easter

Reading 1 Acts 4:23-31 After their release Peter and John went back to their own peopleand reported what the chief priests and elders had told them. And when they heard it,they raised their voices to God with one accordand said, "Sovereign Lord, maker of heaven and earthand the sea and all that is in them, you said by the Holy Spiritthrough the mouth of our father David, your servant:Why did the Gentiles rageand the peoples entertain folly? The kings of the earth took their standand the princes gathered togetheragainst the Lord and against his anointed.Indeed they gathered in this cityagainst your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed,Herod and Pontius Pilate, together with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel,to do what your hand and your willhad long ago planned to take place. And now, Lord, take note of their threats, and enable your servants to speak your wordwith all boldness, as you stretch forth your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are donethrough the name of your holy servant Jesus."As they prayed, the place where they were gathered shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spiritand continued to speak the word of God with boldness. Alleluia. He who is throned in heaven laughs;the LORD derides them. Then in anger he speaks to them;he terrifies them in his wrath:"I myself have set up my kingon Zion, my holy mountain."I will proclaim the decree of the LORD.R. Blessed are all who take refuge in the Lord.or:R. Alleluia. The LORD said to me, "You are my Son;this day I have begotten you.Ask of me and I will give youthe nations for an inheritanceand the ends of the earth for your possession. You shall rule them with an iron rod;you shall shatter them like an earthen dish."R. Blessed are all who take refuge in the Lord.or:R. Alleluia. Alleluia Col 3:1 R. Gospel Jn 3:1-8 There was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.He came to Jesus at night and said to him,"Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God,for no one can do these signs that you are doingunless God is with him."Jesus answered and said to him,"Amen, amen, I say to you, unless one is born from above, he cannot see the Kingdom of God." Nicodemus said to him,"How can a man once grown old be born again?Surely he cannot reenter his mother's womb and be born again, can he?"Jesus answered,"Amen, amen, I say to you, unless one is born of water and Spirithe cannot enter the Kingdom of God.What is born of flesh is fleshand what is born of spirit is spirit.Do not be amazed that I told you,'You must be born from above.'The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes;so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." - - -Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States, second typical edition, Copyright © 2001, 1998, 1997, 1986, 1970 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine; Psalm refrain © 1968, 1981, 1997, International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Inc. Second Sunday of Easter (or Sunday of Divine Mercy)

Reading 1 Acts 2:42-47 They devoted themselvesto the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life,to the breaking of bread and to the prayers.Awe came upon everyone, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common;they would sell their property and possessionsand divide them among all according to each one’s need.Every day they devoted themselvesto meeting together in the temple areaand to breaking bread in their homes. They ate their meals with exultation and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all the people. And every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. Responsorial Psalm Ps 118:2-4, 13-15, 22-24 R. (1) Give thanks to the LORD for he is good, his love is everlasting. or: R. Alleluia. Let the house of Israel say, “His mercy endures forever.” Let the house of Aaron say, “His mercy endures forever.” Let those who fear the LORD say, “His mercy endures forever.” R. Give thanks to the LORD for he is good, his love is everlasting. or: R. Alleluia. I was hard pressed and was falling, but the LORD helped me. My strength and my courage is the LORD, and he has been my savior. The joyful shout of victory in the tents of the just: R. Give thanks to the LORD for he is good, his love is everlasting. or: R. Alleluia. The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. By the LORD has this been done; it is wonderful in our eyes. This is the day the LORD has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it. R. Give thanks to the LORD for he is good, his love is everlasting. or: R. Alleluia. Reading 2 1 Pt 1:3-9 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hopethrough the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for youwho by the power of God are safeguarded through faith,to a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the final time.In this you rejoice, although now for a little whileyou may have to suffer through various trials,so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honorat the revelation of Jesus Christ.Although you have not seen him you love him;even though you do not see him now yet believe in him,you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy,as you attain the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. Alleluia Jn 20:29 R. Alleluia, alleluia. You believe in me, Thomas, because you have seen me, says the Lord;blessed are they who have not seen me, but still believe!R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Jn 20:19-31 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews,Jesus came and stood in their midstand said to them, “Peace be with you.”When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you.As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,“Receive the Holy Spirit.Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.”Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.”But he said to them,“Unless I see the mark of the nails in his handsand put my finger into the nailmarksand put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”Now a week later his disciples were again insideand Thomas was with them.Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.”Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.”Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God!”Jesus said to him, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me?Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”Now, Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciplesthat are not written in this book. But these are written that you may come to believethat Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God,and that through this belief you may have life in his name. - - -Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States, second typical edition, Copyright © 2001, 1998, 1997, 1986, 1970 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine; Psalm refrain © 1968, 1981, 1997, International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Inc. Saturday in the Octave of Easter

Reading 1 Acts 4:13-21 Observing the boldness of Peter and Johnand perceiving them to be uneducated, ordinary men,the leaders, elders, and scribes were amazed, and they recognized them as the companions of Jesus. Then when they saw the man who had been cured standing there with them, they could say nothing in reply. So they ordered them to leave the Sanhedrin, and conferred with one another, saying,"What are we to do with these men?Everyone living in Jerusalem knows that a remarkable signwas done through them, and we cannot deny it.But so that it may not be spread any further among the people, let us give them a stern warningnever again to speak to anyone in this name."So they called them backand ordered them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.Peter and John, however, said to them in reply,"Whether it is right in the sight of Godfor us to obey you rather than God, you be the judges. It is impossible for us not to speak about what we have seen and heard."After threatening them further, they released them, finding no way to punish them,on account of the people who were all praising Godfor what had happened. I will give thanks to you, for you have answered me.or:R. Alleluia.Open to me the gates of justice;I will enter them and give thanks to the LORD.This is the gate of the LORD;the just shall enter it.I will give thanks to you, for you have answered meand have been my savior.R. Gospel Mk 16:9-15 When Jesus had risen, early on the first day of the week,he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. She went and told his companions who were mourning and weeping. When they heard that he was aliveand had been seen by her, they did not believe. After this he appeared in another formto two of them walking along on their way to the country. They returned and told the others;but they did not believe them either. But later, as the Eleven were at table, he appeared to themand rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heartbecause they had not believed thosewho saw him after he had been raised. He said to them, "Go into the whole worldand proclaim the Gospel to every creature." - - -Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States, second typical edition, Copyright © 2001, 1998, 1997, 1986, 1970 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine; Psalm refrain © 1968, 1981, 1997, International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Inc. Gospel Jn 21:1-14 Jesus revealed himself again to his disciples at the Sea of Tiberias. He revealed himself in this way.Together were Simon Peter, Thomas called Didymus,Nathanael from Cana in Galilee,Zebedee's sons, and two others of his disciples.Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing."They said to him, "We also will come with you."So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. When it was already dawn, Jesus was standing on the shore;but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus.Jesus said to them, "Children, have you caught anything to eat?"They answered him, "No."So he said to them, "Cast the net over the right side of the boatand you will find something."So they cast it, and were not able to pull it inbecause of the number of fish.So the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord."When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord,he tucked in his garment, for he was lightly clad, and jumped into the sea.The other disciples came in the boat, for they were not far from shore, only about a hundred yards, dragging the net with the fish. When they climbed out on shore, they saw a charcoal fire with fish on it and bread.Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish you just caught."So Simon Peter went over and dragged the net ashorefull of one hundred fifty-three large fish.Even though there were so many, the net was not torn.Jesus said to them, "Come, have breakfast."And none of the disciples dared to ask him, "Who are you?"because they realized it was the Lord.Jesus came over and took the bread and gave it to them, and in like manner the fish. This was now the third time Jesus was revealed to his disciplesafter being raised from the dead.
