Wednesday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time

Reading 1 2 Cor 3:4-11 Brothers and sisters:Such confidence we have through Christ toward God.Not that of ourselves we are qualified to take creditfor anything as coming from us;rather, our qualification comes from God,who has indeed qualified us as ministers of a new covenant, not of letter but of spirit;for the letter brings death, but the Spirit gives life. Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, was so gloriousthat the children of Israel could not look intently at the face of Mosesbecause of its glory that was going to fade, how much more will the ministry of the Spirit be glorious? For if the ministry of condemnation was glorious, the ministry of righteousness will abound much more in glory.Indeed, what was endowed with gloryhas come to have no glory in this respectbecause of the glory that surpasses it.For if what was going to fade was glorious, how much more will what endures be glorious. Responsorial Psalm Ps 99:5, 6, 7, 8, 9 R. (see 9c) Holy is the Lord our God.Extol the LORD, our God,and worship at his footstool;holy is he!R. Holy is the Lord our God.Moses and Aaron were among his priests, and Samuel, among those who called upon his name;they called upon the LORD, and he answered them.R. Holy is the Lord our God.From the pillar of cloud he spoke to them;they heard his decrees and the law he gave them.R. Holy is the Lord our God.O LORD, our God, you answered them;a forgiving God you were to them, though requiting their misdeeds. R. Holy is the Lord our God.Extol the LORD, our God,and worship at his holy mountain;for holy is the LORD, our God.R. Holy is the Lord our God. Alleluia Ps 25:4b, 5a R. Alleluia, alleluia.Teach me your paths, my God,and guide me in your truth.R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Mt 5:17-19 Jesus said to his disciples:"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letterwill pass from the law, until all things have taken place. Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandmentsand teaches others to do sowill be called least in the Kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandmentswill be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven." - - -Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States, second typical edition, Copyright © 2001, 1998, 1997, 1986, 1970 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine; Psalm refrain © 1968, 1981, 1997, International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Inc. Memorial of Saint Anthony of Padua, Priest and Doctor of the Church

Readings for the Memorial of Saint Anthony of Padua, priest and doctor of the ChurchReading 1 2 Cor 1:18-22 Brothers and sisters:As God is faithful, our word to you is not "yes" and "no."For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was proclaimed to you by us,Silvanus and Timothy and me,was not "yes" and "no," but "yes" has been in him.For however many are the promises of God, their Yes is in him;therefore, the Amen from us also goes through him to God for glory. But the one who gives us security with you in Christand who anointed us is God;he has also put his seal upon usand given the Spirit in our hearts as a first installment. Responsorial Psalm Ps 119:129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 135 R. (135a) Lord, let your face shine on me.Wonderful are your decrees;therefore I observe them.R. Lord, let your face shine on me.The revelation of your words sheds light, gives understanding to the simple.R. Lord, let your face shine on me.I gasp with open mouthin my yearning for your commands.R. Lord, let your face shine on me.Turn to me in pityas you turn to those who love your name.R. Lord, let your face shine on me.Steady my footsteps according to your promise, and let no iniquity rule over me.R. Lord, let your face shine on me.Let your countenance shine upon your servant, and teach me your statutes. R. Lord, let your face shine on me. Alleluia Mt 5:16 R. Alleluia, alleluia.Let your light shine before othersthat they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Mt 5:13-16 Jesus said to his disciples:"You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anythingbut to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world.A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket;it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house.Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deedsand glorify your heavenly Father." - - -Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States, second typical edition, Copyright © 2001, 1998, 1997, 1986, 1970 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine; Psalm refrain © 1968, 1981, 1997, International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Inc. Monday of the Tenth Week in Ordinary Time

Reading 1 2 Cor 1:1-7 Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the Church of God that is at Corinth, with all the holy ones throughout Achaia: grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all encouragement, who encourages us in our every affliction, so that we may be able to encourage those who are in any affliction with the encouragement with which we ourselves are encouraged by God. For as Christ's sufferings overflow to us, so through Christ does our encouragement also overflow. If we are afflicted, it is for your encouragement and salvation; if we are encouraged, it is for your encouragement, which enables you to endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Our hope for you is firm, for we know that as you share in the sufferings, you also share in the encouragement. Responsorial Psalm Ps 34:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9 R. (9a) Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.I will bless the LORD at all times;his praise shall be ever in my mouth.Let my soul glory in the LORD;the lowly will hear me and be glad. R. Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.Glorify the LORD with me,let us together extol his name.I sought the LORD, and he answered meand delivered me from all my fears.R. Taste and see the goodness of the Lord.Look to him that you may be radiant with joy,and your faces may not blush with shame. When the poor one called out, the LORD heard, and from all his distress he saved him. R. Taste and see the goodness of the Lord. The angel of the LORD encampsaround those who fear him, and delivers them.Taste and see how good the LORD is;blessed the man who takes refuge in him.R. Taste and see the goodness of the Lord. Alleluia Mt 5:12a R. Alleluia, alleluia.Rejoice and be glad;for your reward will be great in heaven.R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Mt 5:1-12 When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them, saying:"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven.Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute youand utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me.Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you." - - -Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States, second typical edition, Copyright © 2001, 1998, 1997, 1986, 1970 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine; Psalm refrain © 1968, 1981, 1997, International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Inc. Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ

Readings for the Memorial of Saint Barnabas, ApostleReading 1 Dt 8:2-3, 14b-16a Moses said to the people:"Remember how for forty years now the LORD, your God,has directed all your journeying in the desert,so as to test you by afflictionand find out whether or not it was your intentionto keep his commandments. He therefore let you be afflicted with hunger, and then fed you with manna,a food unknown to you and your fathers,in order to show you that not by bread alone does one live, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the LORD."Do not forget the LORD, your God,who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery;who guided you through the vast and terrible desertwith its saraph serpents and scorpions, its parched and waterless ground;who brought forth water for you from the flinty rockand fed you in the desert with manna,a food unknown to your fathers." Responsorial Psalm Ps 147:12-13, 14-15, 19-20 R. (12) Praise the Lord, Jerusalem.or:R. Alleluia.Glorify the LORD, O Jerusalem;praise your God, O Zion. For he has strengthened the bars of your gates;he has blessed your children within you.R. Praise the Lord, Jerusalem.or:R. Alleluia. He has granted peace in your borders;with the best of wheat he fills you.He sends forth his command to the earth;swiftly runs his word!R. Praise the Lord, Jerusalem.or:R. Alleluia. He has proclaimed his word to Jacob, his statutes and his ordinances to Israel. He has not done thus for any other nation;his ordinances he has not made known to them. Alleluia.R. Praise the Lord, Jerusalem.or:R. Alleluia. Reading 2 1 Cor 10:16-17 Brothers and sisters:The cup of blessing that we bless,is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break,is it not a participation in the body of Christ?Because the loaf of bread is one,we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf. Sequence — Lauda Sion Laud, O Zion, your salvation,Laud with hymns of exultation,Christ, your king and shepherd true:Bring him all the praise you know,He is more than you bestow.Never can you reach his due.Special theme for glad thanksgivingIs the quick'ning and the livingBread today before you set:From his hands of old partaken,As we know, by faith unshaken,Where the Twelve at supper met.Full and clear ring out your chanting,Joy nor sweetest grace be wanting,From your heart let praises burst:For today the feast is holden,When the institution oldenOf that supper was rehearsed. Here the new law's new oblation,By the new king's revelation,Ends the form of ancient rite:Now the new the old effaces,Truth away the shadow chases,Light dispels the gloom of night. What he did at supper seated,Christ ordained to be repeated,His memorial ne'er to cease:And his rule for guidance taking,Bread and wine we hallow, makingThus our sacrifice of peace. This the truth each Christian learns,Bread into his flesh he turns,To his precious blood the wine:Sight has fail'd, nor thought conceives,But a dauntless faith believes,Resting on a pow'r divine. Here beneath these signs are hiddenPriceless things to sense forbidden;Signs, not things are all we see:Blood is poured and flesh is broken,Yet in either wondrous tokenChrist entire we know to be.Whoso of this food partakes,Does not rend the Lord nor breaks;Christ is whole to all that taste:Thousands are, as one, receivers,One, as thousands of believers,Eats of him who cannot waste.Bad and good the feast are sharing,Of what divers dooms preparing,Endless death, or endless life.Life to these, to those damnation,See how like participationIs with unlike issues rife. When the sacrament is broken,Doubt not, but believe 'tis spoken,That each sever'd outward tokendoth the very whole contain.Nought the precious gift divides,Breaking but the sign betidesJesus still the same abides, still unbroken does remain. The shorter form of the sequence begins here.Lo! the angel's food is givenTo the pilgrim who has striven;see the children's bread from heaven, which on dogs may not be spent.Truth the ancient types fulfilling,Isaac bound, a victim willing,Paschal lamb, its lifeblood spilling, manna to the fathers sent.Very bread, good shepherd, tend us,Jesu, of your love befriend us,You refresh us, you defend us,Your eternal goodness send usIn the land of life to see.You who all things can and know,Who on earth such food bestow,Grant us with your saints, though lowest,Where the heav'nly feast you show,Fellow heirs and guests to be. Amen. Alleluia. Alleluia Jn 6:51 R. Alleluia, alleluia.I am the living bread that came down from heaven, says the Lord;whoever eats this bread will live forever.R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Jn 6:51-58 Jesus said to the Jewish crowds:"I am the living bread that came down from heaven;whoever eats this bread will live forever;and the bread that I will giveis my flesh for the life of the world."The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying,"How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" Jesus said to them,"Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my bloodhas eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my bloodremains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent meand I have life because of the Father,so also the one who feeds on mewill have life because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever." - - -Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States, second typical edition, Copyright © 2001, 1998, 1997, 1986, 1970 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine; Psalm refrain © 1968, 1981, 1997, International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Inc.
