Tuesday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Reading 1  MI 7:14-15, 18-20 Shepherd your people with your staff, the flock of your inheritance,That dwells apart in a woodland,in the midst of Carmel.Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead,as in the days of old;As in the days when you came from the land of Egypt, show us wonderful signs.Who is there like you, the God who removes guiltand pardons sin for the remnant of his inheritance;Who does not persist in anger forever, but delights rather in clemency,And will again have compassion on us,treading underfoot our guilt? You will cast into the depths of the seaall our sins; You will show faithfulness to Jacob, and grace to Abraham,As you have sworn to our fathersfrom days of old. Responsorial Psalm PS 85:2-4, 5-6, 7-8 R. (8a) Lord, show us your mercy and love. You have favored, O LORD, your land;you have brought back the captives of Jacob. You have forgiven the guilt of your people;you have covered all their sins. You have withdrawn all your wrath;you have revoked your burning anger. R. Lord, show us your mercy and love.Restore us, O God our savior, and abandon your displeasure against us.Will you be ever angry with us,prolonging your anger to all generations?R. Lord, show us your mercy and love. Will you not instead give us life;and shall not your people rejoice in you?Show us, O LORD, your kindness, and grant us your salvation. R. Lord, show us your mercy and love. Alleluia  JN 14:23 R. Alleluia, alleluia.Whoever loves me will keep my word, and my Father will love himand we will come to him.R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel  MT 12:46-50 While Jesus was speaking to the crowds, his mother and his brothers appeared outside, wishing to speak with him. Someone told him, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, asking to speak with you.” But he said in reply to the one who told him, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother.” Readings for the Optional Memorial of Saint Bridget of Sweden, religious - - -Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States, second typical edition, Copyright © 2001, 1998, 1997, 1986, 1970 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine; Psalm refrain © 1968, 1981, 1997, International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Inc. Feast of Saint Mary Magdalene

Reading 1 SGS 3:1-4B The Bride says:On my bed at night I sought himwhom my heart loves–I sought him but I did not find him.I will rise then and go about the city;in the streets and crossings I will seekHim whom my heart loves.I sought him but I did not find him.The watchmen came upon me,as they made their rounds of the city:Have you seen him whom my heart loves?I had hardly left themwhen I found him whom my heart loves. OR  2 COR 5:14-17 Brothers and sisters:The love of Christ impels us,once we have come to the conviction that one died for all;therefore, all have died.He indeed died for all,so that those who live might no longer live for themselvesbut for him who for their sake died and was raised.Consequently, from now on we regard no one according to the flesh;even if we once knew Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know him so no longer. So whoever is in Christ is a new creation:the old things have passed away;behold, new things have come. Responsorial Psalm PS 63:2, 3-4, 5-6, 8-9 R. (2) My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.O God, you are my God whom I seek;for you my flesh pines and my soul thirstslike the earth, parched, lifeless and without water.R. My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.Thus have I gazed toward you in the sanctuaryto see your power and your glory,For your kindness is a greater good than life;my lips shall glorify you.R. My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.Thus will I bless you while I live;lifting up my hands, I will call upon your name.As with the riches of a banquet shall my soul be satisfied, and with exultant lips my mouth shall praise you.R. My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God.You are my help, and in the shadow of your wings I shout for joy.My soul clings fast to you;your right hand upholds me.R. My soul is thirsting for you, O Lord my God. Alleluia R. Alleluia, alleluia.Tell us Mary, what did you see on the way?I saw the glory of the risen Christ, I saw his empty tomb.R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Jn 20:1-2, 11-18 On the first day of the week,Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb.So she ran and went to Simon Peterand to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,"They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don't know where they put him." Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent over into the tomband saw two angels in white sitting there, one at the head and one at the feetwhere the Body of Jesus had been. And they said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?"She said to them, "They have taken my Lord, and I don't know where they laid him."When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there, but did not know it was Jesus.Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?Whom are you looking for?"She thought it was the gardener and said to him,"Sir, if you carried him away, tell me where you laid him,and I will take him."Jesus said to her, "Mary!"She turned and said to him in Hebrew,"Rabbouni," which means Teacher.Jesus said to her,"Stop holding on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them,'I am going to my Father and your Father,to my God and your God.'"Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples,"I have seen the Lord,"and then reported what he told her. - - - Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States, second typical edition, Copyright © 2001, 1998, 1997, 1986, 1970 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine; Psalm refrain © 1968, 1981, 1997, International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Inc. Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Reading 1 Jer 23:1-6 Woe to the shepherdswho mislead and scatter the flock of my pasture, says the LORD. Therefore, thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, against the shepherds who shepherd my people:You have scattered my sheep and driven them away. You have not cared for them, but I will take care to punish your evil deeds. I myself will gather the remnant of my flockfrom all the lands to which I have driven themand bring them back to their meadow;there they shall increase and multiply. I will appoint shepherds for them who will shepherd themso that they need no longer fear and tremble;and none shall be missing, says the LORD.Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD,when I will raise up a righteous shoot to David;as king he shall reign and govern wisely,he shall do what is just and right in the land.In his days Judah shall be saved,Israel shall dwell in security. This is the name they give him:"The LORD our justice." Responsorial Psalm Ps 23:1-3, 3-4, 5, 6 R. (1) The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.In verdant pastures he gives me repose;beside restful waters he leads me;he refreshes my soul.R. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.He guides me in right pathsfor his name's sake.Even though I walk in the dark valleyI fear no evil; for you are at my sidewith your rod and your staffthat give me courage.R. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. You spread the table before mein the sight of my foes;you anoint my head with oil;my cup overflows.R. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.Only goodness and kindness follow meall the days of my life;and I shall dwell in the house of the LORDfor years to come.R. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. Reading 2 Eph 2:13-18 Brothers and sisters:In Christ Jesus you who once were far offhave become near by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, he who made both oneand broke down the dividing wall of enmity, through his flesh, abolishing the law with its commandments and legal claims, that he might create in himself one new person in place of the two, thus establishing peace, and might reconcile both with God,in one body, through the cross, putting that enmity to death by it. He came and preached peace to you who were far offand peace to those who were near, for through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. Alleluia Jn 10:27 R. Alleluia, alleluia. My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord;I know them, and they follow me.R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Mk 6:30-34 The apostles gathered together with Jesusand reported all they had done and taught. He said to them,“Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” People were coming and going in great numbers, and they had no opportunity even to eat. So they went off in the boat by themselves to a deserted place. People saw them leaving and many came to know about it. They hastened there on foot from all the townsand arrived at the place before them. When he disembarked and saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd;and he began to teach them many things. - - -Lectionary for Mass for Use in the Dioceses of the United States, second typical edition, Copyright © 2001, 1998, 1997, 1986, 1970 Confraternity of Christian Doctrine; Psalm refrain © 1968, 1981, 1997, International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Inc. Saturday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Reading 1 Mi 2:1-5 Woe to those who plan iniquity, and work out evil on their couches; In the morning light they accomplish itwhen it lies within their power. They covet fields, and seize them;houses, and they take them; They cheat an owner of his house,a man of his inheritance. Therefore thus says the LORD:Behold, I am planning against this race an evilfrom which you shall not withdraw your necks;Nor shall you walk with head high, for it will be a time of evil.On that day a satire shall be sung over you,and there shall be a plaintive chant:"Our ruin is complete, our fields are portioned out among our captors,The fields of my people are measured out,and no one can get them back!"Thus you shall have no oneto mark out boundaries by lotin the assembly of the LORD. Responsorial Psalm Ps 10:1-2, 3-4, 7-8, 14 R. (12b) Do not forget the poor, O Lord! Why, O LORD, do you stand aloof? Why hide in times of distress?Proudly the wicked harass the afflicted, who are caught in the devices the wicked have contrived. R. Do not forget the poor, O Lord! For the wicked man glories in his greed, and the covetous blasphemes, sets the LORD at nought. The wicked man boasts, "He will not avenge it";"There is no God," sums up his thoughts. R. Do not forget the poor, O Lord! His mouth is full of cursing, guile and deceit;under his tongue are mischief and iniquity. He lurks in ambush near the villages;in hiding he murders the innocent;his eyes spy upon the unfortunate. R. Do not forget the poor, O Lord! You do see, for you behold misery and sorrow, taking them in your hands. On you the unfortunate man depends;of the fatherless you are the helper.R. Do not forget the poor, O Lord! Alleluia 2 Cor 5:19 R. Alleluia, alleluia.God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation.R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel Mt 12:14-21 The Pharisees went out and took counsel against Jesusto put him to death. When Jesus realized this, he withdrew from that place. Many people followed him, and he cured them all,but he warned them not to make him known. This was to fulfill what had been spoken through Isaiah the prophet:Behold, my servant whom I have chosen,my beloved in whom I delight;I shall place my Spirit upon him,and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles. He will not contend or cry out,nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets.A bruised reed he will not break,a smoldering wick he will not quench, until he brings justice to victory. And in his name the Gentiles will hope.
